A couple of years ago, a local restauranteur approached me to erect a new sign for his (new) business. His assertion was that he could provide me an opportunity to promote my business by placing a sign above his door. He assured me that he would talk it up and tell everyone who made his sign. There was a catch... He wanted to trade: I create a $2,000 sign and install it, and in return he would 'give me' the exposure.

Sometimes a response escapes me, and it sure did that day- I just had to say 'No Thanks', and pass the opportunity up.

This morning I came across the perfect response, and will hang onto it for the next time a proposal this good comes up... Of course I'll change the musician concept to signs, but you get it:

Craigslist Ad:
We are a small & casual restaurant downtown and we are looking for solo musicians to play in our restaurant to promote their work and sell their CD. This is not a daily job, but only for special events which will eventually turn into a nightly event if we get positive response. More Jazz, Rock, & smooth type music, around the world and mixed cultural music. Are you interested to promote your work? Please reply back ASAP.

Happy new year! I am a musician with a small and casual house looking for a restauranteur to promote their restaurant and come to my house to make dinner for my friends and me. This is not a daily job, but only for special events which will eventually turn into a nightly event if we get positive response. More fine dining & exotic meals and mixed Ethnic Fusion cuisine. Well said, and the funniest/craziest part is that it's real life!

Back to the fun stuff of making signs...
